The tea has a strong flavour and is higher in caffeine than other teas like [[Green tea|green ]] or [[oolong ]] teas. Despite the term "breakfast tea", it is drunk throughout the whole day. When brewed, the tea varies in colour from very dark red to brown. Irish breakfast tea can be bought as loose leaf tea or in tea bags with huge variation in quality.
