Benikaori bush

Benikaori is a pure Assam cultivar an originally developed for growing and producing black tea in Japan. After world war II the Japanese economy was weak and the tea farmers were looking into producing black tea for the US market. Nowadays, Benikaori is often used to produce Hojicha. Because this tea is roasted it's free from the typical astringency of Assam cultivars.
