Oriental Beauty (東方美人) is one of the most famous Oolong teas. The tea is also well known as "Dong Fang Mei Ren", the the Chinese pronunciation of "Oriental Beauty". This oolong has a particularly fruity and rich body with muscatel notes caused by bites of cicadas. The teas liquor is quiet dark due to the high oxidation of about 70%. The used cultivars is mostly Qing Xin Da Mao but also Qing Xin and the close related Ruan Zhi.

Production areas

Although Oriental Beauty originated in Taiwan. It's nowadays produced in many tea growing regions, partly with different names.

Taiwan

  • Alishan up to 1200m
  • Zhushan up to 600m

Thailand

In Thailand is Oriental Beauty also known as "Nang Ngam".

  • Doi Mae Salong, Provice Chiang Rai up to 1400m. Thailands best Oolong teas are produced here.
