Chai is the term used for tea in many Asian and Arabic countries and also in Slavic speaking countries of Europe. The term is derived from the Chinese word cha () for tea.

In India is chai masala also simple called chai. Chai is black tea brewed with various spices, sugar and milk. There are also pre mixes available:

  • strong black tea e.g. Assam
  • Milk
  • Sugar, sirup or honey
  • Spices like cardamon, ginger, cinnamon, clove, caraway, pepper and star anis. Usually is cardamon the predominant spice.

Sometimes are also variants with muscat, coriander, rosebuds and almond brewed. In western countries is also chai brewed with roiboos, chocolate or vanilla common.
