Catechin is a type of natural phenol and antioxidant. It is a plant secondary metabolite. It belongs to the group of flavanols of the chemical family of flavonoids.
Catechins are found in many plants such as black tea or cocoa where they contribute in conjunction with other polyphenols to flavor formation. Catechins are found also in many other teas, including the green, white and oolong tea. Catechins are also found in many vegetables and fruits like apples, apricots, pears, blackberries, strawberries, raspberries, peaches, plums, quinces, cherries, gooseberries and grapes.
